5k Benefit Event to be held October 12

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013

Please join us October 12 for our first ever 5k benefit event, “Correr for CARE.” Our friends in Honduras have asked for our support in building a school in Los Ranchos de Esquimay where 50 children are sitting on rocks as chairs and under trees for shade to attend class.

The event will begin at 9am October 12 at Lancaster County Central Park near Pavilion 2. All proceeds and donations go toward a school building project for this community.

See our event website at www.correrforcare.org to register!

Thank you for your support — We look forward to seeing you October 12th!

July Mission Trip

Monday, July 29th, 2013

This month, a group of six volunteers traveled to Honduras with CARE, and we had a busy week!

This July, we celebrated the opening of the new school at La Laguna

The group first traveled to La Laguna at San Antonio de Padua for the official inauguration of the school that Central American Relief Efforts built for the 40+ children in the community who were previously holding classes outdoors in what shade they could find. Contributions for the project came largely from Willow Valley Retirement Community and Penn Manor High School’s Young Humanitarian League. The two classrooms at the school have been named after the two major donors in appreciation of their efforts.

Scholarship Winner, Estefany

The team also saw over 800 patients in two days of medical clinics, presented a scholarship funded by Jack Barry to a young girl named Estefany to attend a bilingual school in Choluteca, spent an afternoon with children in a Choluteca orphanage, and celebrated in our third annual soccer tournament, an event co-sponsored by In Ian’s Boots.

In two days of medical clinics, we brought healthcare access to over 800 Hondurans!
